In episodic form insight is given into the lifes of several couples who stay at a noble luxurious hotel at Beverly Hills and whose problems mostly consist of love, desire and pain. The British actress Diana Barrie has come to America because she was nominated for an Oscar. She does not win the award and moreover has to learn about her husband's homosexuality. A New York business man takes a call girl to his room for the night and has to endure a painful interrogation the next morning when his wife shows up. Finally there is script writer Bill Warren who is in fight with his divorced wife over their 17 year old daughter.

Henry Warren, who wants to sell, promised to persuade also Rad McDowell and the black Reeve Scott. However the two want to keep their farms. Warren applies more and more rigorous methods to push his interests. The escalation of hate and violence occurs.
