Chinese Astrology: The Dragon

The life of the ones born under the sign of the dragon is in close connection with their relationship to power. It is not rare for them to have an effect on other people; this charisma increases with the course of the years. As children, teenager and young adults dragons are sometimes like grey mice - dragon eggs they say in China. At some point, when change arrives to their life, the power of the dragon sign comes to the surface. Just when it will happen is not predictable. The dragon can hatch already as a child but it also happens that the dragon gets to know his fate with age.

That the time of the change is not predictable does not mean that it happens coincidentally. Dragons have generally a tendency to be loners and to being introvert. If outer events, for example the early death of the parents amplifies this inner tendency it can be a reason that you do not see very much of the great dragon's energy. The dragon-born does not have to work with his will on his emotional development. Looking inside and self recognition is easy to him. But if those aspects amplify, it won't make him happier, rather to the contrary.

A sad dragon does not spit fire it is said. But dragon-born usually do not tend to be sad; only if events occur, which are not under their control; such as natural catastrophes, wars or the death of a beloved person. Those hurt a dragon very much since he is not used to tragedies and feels painfully his own uselessness. Of course this also is natural because within every dragon's inside sleeps the awareness of power. It makes sense to him to accomplish himself while acting. He needs to challenge in order to get his great potential unfold. With a dragon-born several factors are combined which seem to make him successful. You are only rarely astonished when they managed to do something big; yes, you really expect them to. Dragons have an extraordinary intuition; strong inner energy is original and many-sided. What more do you want? What other people most often do not notice because they are blinded by the dragon's charisma is that they always keep a certain distance to others. The dragon-born knows about that and they doubt whether they are on the right way.

Those doubts have their rightfulness because keeping the distance is caused by certain intolerance for his fellowman. This is not an aspect of emotional coldness but rather the nature of the dragon. The distance to other people is also something the dragon should work on. The problem here is the motivation. He does see his distance as negative but the admiration of his fellowman lets him believe that the distance is not his own fault. Not the retreat itself, thinking about possible own mistakes and flaws lets the dragon evolve but rather the active loving treatment of other people.

Dragons most often bring innovation. Mostly they are not world changing but within their surroundings quite significant. Also on a big scale their constantly flowing, creative power leads to innovation. Dragons tend also to break the rules what mostly later turns out to have been eligible and have made sense but first brings him quite some trouble. Making some more effort for diplomacy would do well here.

If a dragon is able to combine the effect he has on other people with the effort of understanding them and a little diplomacy the dragon can get anywhere he wants.

The Dragon in the elements

The dragon represents yang earth. If the dragon sign stands in its element you find in him the purest form of the dragon. Since there are five elements a year sign can stand in (wood, fire, earth, metal, water) the other elements change this pure form of the dragon.

The Earth Dragon
This realistic, polite receptive and with a great sense of justice equipped Earth Dragon is capable of doing great things, if he is encouraged to do it. He needs the help and support of his loved ones for his motivation. As worthy, serious and obstinate human being, he is particularly suited for administration, human resources, diplomacy or communication. He is rather for thinking and discussing and not as explosive as his sign-comrades. In love this lively person often dreams of playing a prank but rarely converts this thought into action.

The Metal Dragon
This conquering, wilful and by luck favoured dragon has a big urge for activity, is persistent, somewhat uncompromising, almost undiplomatic and possesses a preference for new or spectacular activities. He always wants to lead an example for others, always wants to be the leader or the star and possesses big strength of character. His obsession which sometimes borders already on fanaticism and the strong trust in his own abilities can lead him far outside the known paths but can also lead to dangerous horizons. In the brilliant Doctor Jekyll is always a Mr. Hyde, too.

The Water Dragon
The dragon born under this sign is very much organized, a born mediator, extraordinarily gifted in communication, democratic, of sharp mind, and he knows his borders exactly. The sharpness of mind and the moral consciousness are this unselfish and generous dragon's main-qualities. He is a patient comrade, who also can deal with failure. Furthermore, he is very affable, open to innovations and prefers to listen rather than to talk. This optimistic dragon, which you can depend on and can deal with several tasks at once is tender and loves his family.

The Wood Dragon
This dragon is warm-hearted and devoted, extremely affable and friendly. He is the most artistic of his sign-brothers, the most creative and fussiest. He sometimes has his head in the clouds and is distracted, unless during work. He sometimes is a genius, a maniac or troublemaker. In general, he is peaceful, even kind, can get short and sudden fits of rage, however, and then becomes petty and malicious. However, he is not unforgiving at all.

The Fire Dragon
The always ambitious, open and human fire dragon possesses a distinctive sense of duty and honour. This objective and often constructive dragon - he cannot always conquer his humour - doesn't spit fire thoughtlessly. However, this authoritarian person can be unbearable especially towards strangers. His sensuality is strongly distinctive, sometimes even unrestrained which often makes him (or her) fickle a weakness, that completely vanishes over time or in case of a love marriage.

Chinese Sign Dragon: Love & Emotion

As already mentioned dragons are loners by nature. On the other hand a relationship to other people is good for them. Dragons do know this at least subconsciously and therefore they tend to commit quite early to another human being. Mostly this turns out of being a mistake, not so much because of the early commitment, but a partner is to no other sign as important as for the dragon. People who commit early have not had so much time to meet others and thus the likelihood to meet the right person.

The tendency to an early commitment also casts a negative light on the dragons' attitude towards other people: Many of them think other people are exchangeable; to exaggerate you could say that dragons tie the knot early because they think that it does not matter who they chose as a partner. Of course it is not as extreme as that. Dragons know that not all people are equal; yet they do feel differently and have to build up closeness to others. So check before you commit - for no other sign is that more valid as for the dragon!

Dragons have a clear sense of family. This is also a hint to their relationship with power. The family is a small system in which the dragon can prove his strength. Strength is not meant negatively here - you do not need to mix up power with violence. Dragons are loving fathers, mothers and partners. They constantly strive for reaching the best for all family members, although they want to be the ones steering them. They also need admiration. It is essential for a dragon to have the right partner at whose side it does not come to conflict.

The Dragon & the other Chinese signs

Dragon and Dragon
There can only be one could be the motto of this relationship. Dragon and dragon have both the urge to control the other; a hopeless undertaking. When one already thinks to have gained victory the other already plans the counteraction. There seems to be no true peace between the two of them but only a constant rivalry. But in love both are made for each other in a fiery and passionate way. Sadly that alone is not enough to commit permanently.

Dragon and Snake
Wherever a dragon and a snake appear this unusual couple creates a murmur in the crowd. They are mysterious and seductive and appear fascinating and irritating at the same time. That what binds those two cannot be seen from the outside. What they show the environment is almost a show. What happens behind closed doors, what passion they have, stays their secret. One thing is clear though; they belong to each other with body and soul.

Dragon and Horse
It is the same energy that drives the horse and the dragon; the insatiable hunger for passion in life. These two extraordinary natures form a fascinating and powerful pair that is able to tackle all obstacles in their way once they have found each other. If! The natural respect of the power of the respective other often leads to observing the other from the distance rather than to meet eye to eye. As soon as one makes the first step there is no stop to it.

Dragon and Goat
Until the dragon and the goat get along some time full of misunderstandings and doubts could pass by. In fact both seem to talk in different languages so that difficulties in understanding each other is a given on a daily basis. And all had started so wonderfully. The goat shows the dragon the necessary respect and the dragon is attracted by the accommodating nature of the goat. But until both have managed to adapt to the true needs of the other a lot of porcelain has been broken.

Dragon and Monkey
When a dragon and a monkey meet, both instantly like each other. Thoughts and ideas are flowing between the two and the topics to talk about are never-ending. The dragon enjoys the intellectual flexibility of the monkey and the monkey enjoys the unmistaken clearness of the dragon. Where the monkey gets often lost in details the dragon quickly brings the matter to the point. And where the dragon sometimes is one-sided in his thinking the monkey will take care of movement in an intelligent way. This is a relationship full of dynamics!

Dragon and Rooster
Rooster and dragon are very independent personalities and as such they are able to deal with each other quite well. Both do not want to argue the other's rights because of the own free space. Thus it might seem for the outstanding person as if both form rather a relationship on purpose which mainly consists of not giving the other stress. In truth the rooster and the dragon are connected by something more of depth that they do not like to present to the public but what can be found in expressing a quite understanding, an affectionate gaze or a soft touch.

Dragon and Dog
If a dog meets a dragon he might have the feeling to meet the exact opposite of himself. The dragon seems to him to be domineering and moody while he strives for higher ideals where there is no place for such aristocratic behaviour. The dragon on the other hand does not understand how the dog could sacrifice his life for an idea and does without the joy of living. How should this uneven couple form a relationship? Only if both can come up with a maximum amount of tolerance for each other, the relationship might work.

Dragon and Pig
A pig and a dragon seem to be an unlike couple at the first gaze in which the roles are clearly given. The dragon directs and the pig dances. A misconception! The pig understands it perfectly to get the dragon exactly where he wants him to be without the dragon seeing through the manoeuvre. Even if the dragon understands that the pig has once more tricked him he cannot be mad at the pig. The dragon bows before so much cleverness.

Dragon and Rat
Rat and dragon are pure energy! In this relationship one surprise follows the other and both enjoy that they still are perceived as freshly fallen in love even in later years. Many envy both for their unbroken passion for each other but behind the scenes something like exhaustion can spread. In order to have this energy not to evaporate it is advisable that rat and dragon combine this energy onto a goal. Together they are an unbeatable team.

Dragon and Ox
The ox and the dragon do not lose love for each other by nature. Understandable, if you know that both like to be in the lead and have very different opinions about how to organise life. The ox needs security, the dragon likes to risk something in order to keep his power. The danger is great that both try to outwit the other with their own means. Only if both are ready to complement the other with their respective abilities and stop fighting they can become successful; but then really successful.

Dragon and Tiger
The king of the jungle and the king of the sky and the earth; these two powerful characters don't give up their claim for power easily. Often both encounter each other out of competition and try at first to put each other in his place. But soon they realise that they meet at eye level. Now a passionate fight with many highs and lows starts. A firm relationship it does not seem to be but what the two have with each other is a firework of emotions which can last very long.

Dragon and Rabbit
The rabbit and the dragon is not an unproblematic mixture, the masterful dragon and the worrying rabbit. Often the somewhat submissive nature of the rabbit which has nothing to throw against the dragon's dominance unnerves the dragon because he cannot compete with the rabbit. And the rabbit feels being abandoned by the dragon when the dragon takes more care about his image than the sorrows of the rabbit. In critical times both live against each other. The chance of this relationship lies in learning from each other. Especially the rabbit will gain more self-consciousness.
